BirthWright Consulting
Breastfeeding is an essential and ancient art and science. Yet, it is not well understood outside of the birthing community. Many times, the biological norms related to breastfeeding are overlooked, and dismissed by family members, case workers, attorneys, judges, and even medical professionals.
BirthWright Consulting seeks to provide lactation specific education to medical students, law students, and social work students, so that as professionals, they are equipped to provide guidance and make decisions that are fair and reasonable for breastfeeding families. Differences in scheduling, growth, and sleep cycles, sometimes cause concern for an infant’s welfare, or a parent’s ability to care for the infant. Hospitalizations and custody battles can derail a breastfeeding journey, but should not. With proper re-direction, and a certain level of advocacy, breastfeeding may be salvaged, and confidence in biology restored by all parties.
BirthWright Consulting serves as an expert witness in court cases related to custody, negligence, medical kidnapping, or workplace discrimination. We pride ourselves on speaking the “lactation truth”, under oath, in order to provide insight around what needs to happen, or what may have happened, in open cases related to the provision of breast milk. We also serve as witness in cases related to perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs). We work with human resource departments and employers to ensure that parents are properly supported upon their return to work.
Please contact us for questions or support related to perinatal health education or discrimination.
