Antepartum depression is real and under diagnosed. Women who suffer with it also carry a tremendous amount of guilt and anxiety for not being as chipper or grateful as they others think they should be.

Susan Sarandon reflects on what it was like to breastfeed.

What is tandem breastfeeding really like?

How ridiculous that these women were invited to the State House in Iowa to discuss breastfeeding, but were asked to cover up while nursing.

One year ago this week, I completed my postpartum doula training, which has rounded out my comprehensive maternal wellness offerings, and has allowed me to continue to work with new moms and babies without having to be on call, as I was while working as a birth doula. I can absolutely relate to Barbara Verneus finding her true purpose in birth-work, after the birth of her daughter.

The benefits of slathering your newborn with vaginal bacteria.

Have you ever seen waist beads used for waist training or birth control? What a stylish tradition!

Let's Talk About Sex, Baby!
Pregnancy Sex, That Is...

Check out these hilarious illustrations of other pregnancy realities by Marie-Charlotte Yao.

We've been on Baby Watch and we are happy to report that Kelly Clarkson has given birth to her second child, this time, a son! Blessings!

Postpartum Wraps: what works and what doesn't, from Oh Baby! Fitness

Breastfeeding Nutrition is a topic that we at Blossom are quite passionate about, but is also quite controversial. In America, where we are trying to increase breastfeeding rates, of ALL mothers, lactivists are reluctant to discuss quality nutrition as tenant of optimal breastfeeding. Nutritionists are told that they are "shaming" mothers for even addressing it... so here's an article from India about a few basic nutrition practices in that country.

The implications of pregnancy and breastfeeding nutrition can last well beyond infancy, as there's new evidence that formula-fed babies born to obese mothers have an increased risk of liver disease in adolescence.

Working a job in addition to raising a child is challenging enough, but when we hear stories like this on of the 3 month old who stopped breathing on her first day of day care... there are no words. Our hearts are with this family.

We have to do more to help with both the infant and maternal mortality rates in this country. They are not much better than many third world countries.

In happier news, Sonia Manzano, better known as Maria on Sesame Street, is being honored with an Emmy for lifetime achievement as one of the first Latina actresses to enter the family rooms of many Americans. We always appreciate the opportunity to share her groundbreaking breastfeeding video.

As a postpartum doula and a lactation counselor, I am always asked about how often babies should be carried, held, or worn, especially when parents are exhausted, or well-meaning grandmothers are warning about spoilage (nonsense). Hopefully this information about why newborns hate to be put down, will help.

The Fourth Trimester: Why Newborns Hate Being Put Down

New York's New Family Leave Policy... is not as great as San Francisco's, but its still better than the rest of the country's, which is much worse than the rest of the world's.

New York also introduced a new bill that could mean safe spaces for breastfeeding throughout the city.

Here's How More Babies Would Survive With Breastfeeding

Privilege And Breastfeeding: What breastfeeding advocates need to know

Ridiculous crusade to prevent women with larger than a C-cup from breastfeeding in public, which no doubt would lead to a decrease in breastfeeding rates, as the body images of obese women are already known to decrease their duration of breastfeeding... except in the case of this beautiful mother.

Meanwhile, there's more evidence to Skip the Rice Cereal for infants... and even more here. At the same time, there's new information about spicing up your own diet while breastfeeding in order to improve your baby's food acceptance.

How was your week?! Fantastic!

April is Occupational Therapy Month! We'll be celebrating all month!

Thank you Birth of a Mama for the love in your #DoulaDiaries! I am truly honored. It was a wonderful way to continue to celebrate World Doula Week!

My friend and fellow breastfeeding advocate Chef Ebeth also had a great feature on It's Working, about returning to work after pregnancy, and helping other mothers prepare to do the same. You might also enjoy her brilliant post about the (rather ridiculous) Jamie Oliver breastfeeding support controversy. Check it out and share your thoughts.

Tracee
Ellis Ross created this amazing video on what meditation looks like and feel to her... and then she was booted off of Late Night With Seth Meyers because of this:

An Easter to Remember...

Check out this mom who also makes sure that Easter is fun... and sweet!

And this sweetness happened

This picture is adorable, but the misconception about nursing mothers being Human Pacifiers is not as cute.

Some days, breastfeeding moms do feel depleted, and suddenly, it's over... way too soon.
Why I Really Missed Breastfeeding My Daughter

What have you missed or will you miss most about breastfeeding?

No pressure, but we can't help but to wonder if the beautiful Tatyana Ali will choose to breastfeed. She's expecting, ya know?! We are so excited for her and her family!
